Purpose:

a.   Provide a central place for maintaining and praying for the needs of
individuals, the church, the nation and the world.

b.   Provide prayer support for all church endeavors and a source of power
for ministry in our church.

c.   Lead the church in an understanding of and confidence in prayer.

 What is a “Prayer Room?”

The Prayer Room is a quiet room (you are by yourself) to have the opportunity to pray for an hour for the church community and world.

The concept of a “Prayer Room” is similar to a relay race.  When you are done with your hour you pass the “prayer baton” to another person who in an hour will pass it on again.  This provides continuous (or nearly continuous) corporate (common prayer, praying as a team.)

 How can I get involved?

Everyone is welcome!

Can’t I just pray anywhere?  Why do I need to come to a “Prayer Room”?

You can pray anywhere and we encourage that.  However when we come together for common prayer there tends to be a focus and an agreement on common needs and thanksgivings that is not present with individual prayer. In (Matt.18:19) Jesus says, I tell you if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three come together in my name, there I am with them.”

What kind of experience do I need?

You need NO experience except a willingness to learn and grow in prayer.

Will I be trained?

Prayer is a discipline that can be learned. An hour course is available to introduce you to Dick Eastman’s prayer model intended to help develop prayer stamina. Using this model is a way to help us to get into “prayer shape.”  In this way an hour of prayer can be a fulfilling time not a time of “what do I do in prayer for a hour?” Eastman’s model simply divides an hour into twelve five-minute segments.  This method (only an aide or guide in prayer) has encouraged people to form better prayer discipline.

Ten Reasons to have a

“Prayer Room”

1.      A Prayer Room makes it possible to schedule prayer in a

systematic manner.

 2.      A Prayer Room provides a place to focus the churches prayer on
          a given topic.

 3.      A Prayer Room is a great place to catalogue answers to prayer

in the life of our church.

 4.      The Prayer Room promotes ownership of the church vision.

 5.      The Prayer Room shows those outside our church that we view
           prayer as a priority.

 6.      The Prayer Room provides a place for people to practice praying.

 7.      The Prayer Room is inclusive (it can be used by all people).

 8.      The Prayer Room is a place where people can be quiet and hear
           the voice of God
.

 9.      A Prayer Room provides a place for continuous periods of
          corporate prayer.

 10.    A Prayer Room shows that prayer is the most important ministry
          in the church.

Corporate (Common) Prayer

(Praying together as a team)

When we move from our individual prayers to a corporate prayer focus, agreement with others, we move into a realm where prayer power becomes greater.  It is our belief that for every person added to this Prayer Room Ministry prayer power is multiplied.  Jesus tells us that prayers are answered when people in the church agree in prayer (Matt. 18:19). One of the lost concepts of prayer is the idea of waiting together for God to answer our prayers.  As Jesus ascended into heaven His command for his disciples was “to wait for the promise of the Father” (Acts 1:14). For the early church waiting meant praying together and 120 of them did so until the Holy Spirit was poured out on them. The first work of God’s Kingdom is prayer. The early church made prayer a priority.  Much was accomplished through praying together.  Likewise, we are to follow and fulfill the commands of Jesus, we need to make prayer a priority of our lives. God does not want to crowd our lives with prayer.  He actually wants us to rearrange our lives around prayer.  The Prayer Room can be a place to take leisure in God away from our busy world and as Jesus said, “seek first the Kingdom of God,” needs to be a primary activity for spiritual health and growth.

“Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the son…”
(John 14:13)

“The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth.”  (Psalm 145:18)

“…if my people pray and seek my face, and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear from heaven, and forgive their sin”
(2 Chronicles 7:14)

Thou has made us for Thyself and our hearts are restless until they find rest in Thee.”
