HUNGER FACT In Los Angeles, hundreds of people are living in their cars, because shelters can accommodate only about a third of the city’s estimated 73,000 homeless people, according to Shelter Partnership, a local advocacy group.

HUNGER RESOURCE The San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission provides meals and hot showers Fridays at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 8520 Winnetka Ave., cross street Chase. Showers are 10:30 – 11:45 a.m., meals 12 noon – 1 p.m.

FROM THE PANTRY “I sleep in the park at night, because I’m afraid to use the shelter; I’ve been robbed there.” said a homeless man.
