Pantry Paper – FEBRUARY 2010

FIRST E-MAIL ONLY MAILING This Pantry Schedule and Newsletter has been sent to volunteers, for whom we have e-mail addresses, by e-mail only. If you have received them through the Post Office and  are willing to receive them  by e-mail, we would appreciate your sending your e-mail address to Glenn Ellis at gaellis@earthllink.net. You will help us save the cost of postal service mailings.

IF YOU RECEIVED YOUR SCHEDULE BY E-MAIL, be sure to send the shifts you wish to work in March, along with your phone number, to PantryScheduler@sbcglobal.net.

SUPERMARKET FOOD DRIVES Help is needed Saturday, February 6th at Ralph’s on the north side of Victory west of Fallbrook and Saturday, February 13th at Albertson’s on the south side of Victory west of Fallbrook. Both consist of two hour shifts, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Call Jeff Albee to sign up for the February 6th drive (818) 731-7385, Al Trumpler for the 13th (818) 887-9384.

VOLUNTEER NEWS Welcome new volunteers Roger and Vally Nance, and thanks to their trainer Phyllis Henkin.

WE APPRECIATE SHIFT VOLUNTEERS who are on time for their  shifts, and who complete cleanup at the end of the Friday shift, helping the other volunteers. If you are unable to work on the day you are scheduled, try switching with someone working the same day during a different week. Or call one of the substitutes listed on the last page of your Volunteer Schedule.

TRIBUTES For a minimum donation of $5, you can help the Pantry and honor or remember someone. Please send the name of the person you wish to remember/honor and the reason for it, along with your check, to Earl Lewis, 6036 Shirley Ave., Tarzana, CA 91356. Also, please let us thank you by including your name and address.

WE NEED CASH-OFF SUPERMARKET COUPONS Some are in Entertainment books or the newspaper; others come in the mail. Please leave them in Jeanne Bain’s envelope on the corner bulletin board. Also please bring in egg cartons, large rubber bands and 2010 calendars. Thanks!

IF A GROUP DROPS OFF A DONATION, please ask them if they would like to receive a thank you note. If so, pull a donation card from the envelope on the bulletin board, fill it out and sign it. You’ll need to ask their name and address, describe what they donated and write so others can read it. Then return the card to the envelope, where it will be passed on to a note writer. When someone drops off a personal donation, give them the card to document a charitable deduction.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO GLEAN PRODUCE OR OFFER YOUR PROPERTY FOR GLEANING, go to foodforward.org. Groups of up to a dozen glean on a property most weeks. These picks last a couple of hours, and occur in the San Fernando Valley and neighboring areas.  A portion of the harvest goes to the Pantry.
