VOLUNTEER NEWS Condolences to frequent volunteer, Phyllis Henkin, on the death of her 94-year-old mother, Millie.

WE APPRECIATE SHIFT VOLUNTEERS who are on time for their shifts, 9:45 a.m and 12:15 p.m., and who complete cleanup at the end of the Friday shift, helping the other volunteers. If you are unable to work the day you are scheduled, try switching with someone working the same day during a different week. Or call one of the substitutes listed on the last page of your Volunteer Schedule.

NEW SCHEDULING PARAMETERS Now that we have a good number of new volunteers and so many of you are sending your requests to work soon after you receive your Schedule by e-mail, the schedulers have had to change the way they respond to volunteers’ requests to work. They used to work on a first-come, first-served basis, but since some of you make your request by e-mail and some by Post Office mail, that no longer works.

Therefore, all requests received, either by e-mail or by the Post Office, will be treated as first-come, if they are received by the 10th of the month. Those received after the 10th will be asked to fill in the remaining empty shifts.

There will sometimes be too many requests for certain shifts on certain days. When this happens, you will be called and asked if you can switch to another day. If you cannot, the scheduler will call one of the other volunteers who have requested the overfilled shift. If no one is able to change, the scheduler will make the decision as to who works in a fair way. You will ALWAYS be called or e-mailed, if your choice of days/shifts cannot be accommodated.

A number of volunteers have always called the schedulers to make their requests. Feel free to do so. You do not have to wait until the upcoming month’s schedule comes out to communicate your choice of shifts to the schedulers. However, there are no permanent shift assignments. The schedulers have learned the hard way that permanent shift assignments do not work.

The schedulers’ e-mail is pantryscheduler@sbcglobal.net; their phone numbers are: Glenn *82 (818) 347-6021; and Judy *82 (818) 347-2890.
