Pantry Paper – JANUARY 2012

THANKS TO SO MANY FOR HOLIDAY FOOD DRIVES: schools, scout troops, service organizations, congregations, businesses and individuals.

THANK YOU The Food Pantry Board and Toy Distribution Co-chairs Kelly Berka, Joanne Kim and Lori Malingagio thank the National Charity League, churches, temples, schools, organizations, friends and volunteers of the Pantry, who collected toys and made personal donations for the annual Toy Distribution to Pantry clients. We especially appreciate the support from NCL Ticktockers and Patronesses for setting up the Toy Shop Friday, December 16th and volunteering Saturday, December 17th. Special recognition goes to the 10th grade class for those wonderful teen baskets. Thank you Paul Sylvester for the many hours of physical labor in the set up and tear down of the event. We sincerely thank everyone for making a difference in the lives of those less fortunate this past holiday season.

TIED WITH A HOLIDAY BOW We appreciate the Wagners. Joan and her daughter, Georgette, put together over 100 packages of candy for our clients for the holidays. Her son, Ray, is a long-time Pantry volunteer, stocking shelves every week.

SUPERMARKET FOOD DRIVES Help is needed Saturday, January 7th at Sprouts/Henry’s Market at Ventura and Topanga, and Saturday, January 14th at Albertson’s on the south side of Victory west of Fallbrook. Both consist of two hour shifts, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Call Blake Lichtig for the 7th (818)415-8995, and Al Trumpler for the 14th (818) 887-9384.

VOLUNTEER NEWS We appreciate Etta Hulett, who retired recently from the Pantry Board after many years of service. We welcome our new volunteers: Randy Levitz and Alane Pollan. Also thanks to trainer Karen Zarachoff.

TRIBUTES For a minimum donation of $5, you can honor or remember someone and, also, help the Pantry. Please send the name of the person you wish to remember/honor and the reason for it, along with your check, to Earl Lewis, 6036 Shirley Ave., Tarzana, CA 91356. Also, please let us thank you by including your name and address.

WE NEED CASH-OFF SUPERMARKET COUPONS Some are in Entertainment books or the newspaper; others come in the mail. Please give them to Jeanne Bain at the Pantry.

IF A GROUP DROPS OFF A DONATION, please ask them if they would like to receive a thank you note. If so, pull a donation card from the envelope on the bulletin board, fill it out and sign it. You’ll need to ask their name and postal or email address, describe what they donated and MAKE SURE THIS INFORMATION IS LEGIBLE. Then return the card to the envelope, where it will be passed on to a note writer. When someone drops off a personal donation, give them the card to document a charitable deduction.
