Helping children learn to read was the best part
of being a teacher. Nothing beats the "light bulb moment" when a child realizes "I can read!"
What a blessing for each of us to sit alongside a child and share a special time, a special story. What a
blessing a book can be when its characters address a difficulty our children might be facing, or a situation
being experienced.
Share a story today with a child - you won't be disappointed.

Our children are faced with so many pressures as they grow, some real, some imaginary. Sharing a story
(sometimes over and over again) can often be a non threatening way to begin a conversation about a subject
our children might be struggling with, or an area they need some extra support in. Always pre-read a book or
story to be sure it is appropriate before sharing it with your child.
Daddy's Old Robe, Shawn Strannigan; a story about a parent's illness
Monkey See, Monkey Do, Linda Schwartz; understanding peer pressure
I'm Mad, Eliza Crary; dealing with feelings
When Dinosaurs Die, Laurie & Marc Brown; a guide to understanding death
Ric & Rac, Woodland Adventure, H. Norman Wright & Gary Oliver; the good and bad sides of fear
