| TAIZE SERVICE |
 |
Come as you are
Be in the moment
Listen to your heart beat
Listen to the still small voice
Quiet your mind
Awaken your soul
For a while be only with God
And be at peace.

"WHAT IS THE TAIZE SERVICE?"
|
Starting Friday, October 15 (and thereafter every third Friday everning) the
Taize style worship service will be held in the Chapel. Prince of Peace was introduced to this style of worship some time ago
but this may be new to many of you.
Taize is a protestant monastic community in France. Their style of prayer, music, and
meditation has had a tremendous impact on many parts of the developing and developed world.
This community began in 1940 in Taize, France with a basic ministry to pray, to teach prayer,
and to serve pilgrims. During the summer months thousand of young people from all over the
world come to learn more about Jesus and how to transform their own lives and the lives of
the communities they represent.
The Archbishop of Canterbury was a recent summer pilgrim and had praises for the community
work and worship.
The services are very simple. Several pieces of scripture are set to simple tunes and are
sung by the congregation. Simple phrases like ³Jesus remember me when you come into your
kingdom² are repeated over and over again to help us slow down and come into the presence
of God. There are readings, prayers for the church and the world, and a closing song to
lead us into the deeper worship of Jesus and His sacrifice on the cross for us.
Icons, candles, and the sung and spoken word are the tools for this time of contemplation
and meditation. We live in a very busy world and the number one need in most of our spiritual
lives is to slow down enough so that we can hear the still small voice of God in us. This
form of worship is designed to help make listening a possibility.
You are invited to join us for the Taize Service on the third Sunday of each month at 6 p.m.
in the Hamil Chapel.
