Music Internship

Prince of Peace Episcopal Church is seeking a part-time music intern.  Intern will Learn, Lead, and Get Paid.

 

This internship provides comprehensive, hands-on training in parish music leadership, equipping emerging musicians with real-world experience in worship, performance, and directing.

Program Intent:  

  No matter what your skills are at present, you will have the opportunity to gain experience in these areas:

  • Organ: performing repertoire, hymns, and liturgy

  • Choral Conducting: rehearsal and worship leadership

  • Handbells: technique, rehearsal, and performance

  • Working with Instrumentalists: timpani, trumpet, cello, oboe, African drums

  • Worship Planning: selecting hymns & choral composition

 

Responsibilities

  • Accompany one hymn weekly

  • Monthly rotation of:

    • Organ prelude

    • Improvised postlude or communion music

    • Conducting choir anthem

    • Lead Handbell call-to-worship

    • Working with soloists

 

Time Commitment

  10 hours per week:

  • Sunday: 8:30 –11:30 AM Rehearsal and Worship

  • Thursday: 5:30 – 8:30 PM Multiple Rehearsals, Choir and Handbells

  • The remaining 4 hours are

    • 1 hour per week hands on lessons in keyboard, conducting, theory, and composition

    • 3 hours per week individual practice, mainly keyboard to accomplish goals set in rehearsal and lesson

Duration

  • 10 Months from mid-summer through the liturgical cycle including: Advent • Christmas • Epiphany • Lent • Easter • Pentecost

 

What You Receive

  • $10,000 scholarship

  • Individualized mentorship from an experienced (62 years) organist, Music Director, composer, and arranger

  • Keyboard, conducting, and performance experience
