West Valley Food Pantry Executive Director
The West Valley Food Pantry (WVFP) is seeking an Executive Director to shape and lead the organization into the future.
WVFP works to alleviate hunger in the west San Fernando Valley in the City of Los Angeles. Supported by the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, committed elected officials, community leaders, generous donors, selfless volunteers, and employed staff, WVFP is an efficient drive-through operation open five days each week. WVFP serves approximately 100,000 persons in need of food assistance each year.
Recognized as the California Small Non-Profit of the Year in 2020, WVFP is a program of Prince of Peace Episcopal Church that welcomes and supports all who need food assistance. The WVFP is located on the campus of the church at 5700 Rudnick Avenue, Woodland Hills, Ca 91367. The Executive Director is an employee of Prince of Peace and regularly interacts with church staff. However, there is no requirement that the Executive Director be affiliated with the Episcopal Church.
West Valley Food Pantry Executive Director: Essential Roles and Responsibilities
Leadership
-
Provide executive leadership to ensure that the WVFP effectively executes its mission.

Establish and implement policies for conducting operations, managing people, stewarding financial and other resources, and caring for clients and the community in a manner that is ethical, moral, and people-focused.

Lead and manage the staff of the WVFP in the execution of the organization’s mission.
Strategic Vision and Planning
-
Develop and periodically assess a strategic vision for the future of the WVFP.
-
Develop a multi-year plan and set goals for ensuring that WVFP anticipates and is prepared to meet the needs of the community regarding its fundamental mission to alleviate hunger in the service area.
-
Identify potential additional services not currently offered by WVFP which would benefit the community that is presently served; assess gaps in social services offered in the service area; analyze the feasibility of offering supplemental or “wrap-around” services; and implement such programs or services.
Fundraising
-
Establish, lead, and manage fundraising initiatives, in collaboration with administrative staff and the board of directors, including:

develop and maintain relationships with donors and potential donors;
-
identify and apply for appropriate grants; and
-
otherwise implement a resource development program that ensures the long-term financial viability of WVFP.

Operations Management
-
Be responsible for the development, implementation, supervision, and periodic assessment of practices and procedures for the safe, efficient, and effective operation of WVFP in the delivery of services to the community, in collaboration with operations staff.
Financial Management and Budgeting
-
Lead the development and preparation of an annual budget for WVFP.

Ensure development, implementation, and monitoring of the annual budget, in collaboration with administrative staff and the board of directors.
Personnel Management
-
Ensure development, implementation, supervision, and annual assessment of people-focused standards and practices, in collaboration with administrative staff to facilitate effective performance of WVFP personnel.
Facilities and Property Management
-
Ensure development, implementation, supervision, and periodic assessment of practices and procedures for the maintenance of facilities and property used by WVFP, in collaboration with administrative staff.
Community Engagement, Marketing, and Public Relations
-
Develop and sustain relationships with community leaders and influencers, including elected officials and leaders of adjacent and supporting non-profit organizations, in collaboration with administrative staff.

Be responsible for the development and implementation of a marketing and public relations program in support of fundraising and community outreach initiatives.
Board Development
-
Serve as a member of the board of directors ex officio.
-
Identify, recruit, and develop effective board members.
-
Ensure active participation by board members in the development of resources and in advisory roles supportive of the mission of WVFP.
Qualifications
-
Demonstrated commitment to work in support and on behalf of the poor, marginalized, or disadvantaged members of the community.

Demonstrated ability to creatively and energetically solve problems.
-
Educated, trained, and/or experienced in the management and leadership of non-profit social services organizations.
-
Educated, trained, and/or experienced in one or more of the following areas of expertise: organizational management; accounting, budgeting, or financial management; fundraising or grant writing; marketing or public relations.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
-
Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the disposition to collaborate with teams and team members regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, identity, or ability.
Administrative Qualifications
-
Proficient in office technology applications.

Holds or can obtain a valid California driver’s license.

Must complete required training in the prevention of workplace discrimination and sexual harassment, and in the safeguarding of children.
